This week i'm working the afternoon shift at work.On monday i get to work and the boss is there packing up one of the patients rooms.I found this unusual since we never touch the patients things it's always done by the family. So,i asked what was going on.Now some of this is hearsay but i think there is a lot of truth in it.The patient in question i'll call Doris(not her real name).Doris has lived in the nursing home for a number of years and has many friends there. She does have some dementia but is always a happy lady.Doris's finances are taken care of by her daughter and son in law.She was a very careful lady who had a large home and sufficient means to end her days comfortably.
Now what happenened was that Doris's rent hadn't been paid for 5 months dispite numerous requests for payment off my boss.Between the rent and other personal bills Doris now owed $12,000.My boss eventually got a lawyer to sent her daughter a letter demanding payment. The daughter then writes a cheque which bounces. My boss loses patience and issues the family with an eviction notice.Which they choose to ignore. After discussions with social services my boss is told to drive Doris to the hospital and leave her there ,then refuse to take her back in the nursing home. So,now poor Doris is left homeless with no one wanting her at the hospital until social sevices find her a home.
Now the next part is hearsay which i heard off someone who knows Doris's family. They said the daughter and SIL have gambled all her money away on VLT machines. They took out a second morgage on Doris's house then sold it and they have now filed for bankruptcy since they'd lost their own house as well. They don't want to have Doris's with them because then one of them will have to give up work to take care of her.I feel so sad for poor Doris she must be so confused being taken away from her home and then no one wanting her.If you want to gamble away your own money thats your choice but you shouldn't do that to your mother. All Doris's belongings are packed in boxes in the garage at work.It upsets me everytime i look at them knowing she hasn't got all her little treasures around her.

Comments:
Old Lady: I'd love to take Doris' daughter to Court and force her to get a loan. If she can abuse her mother by spending her hard-earned money over her lifetime, she deserves to go into debt and get some psychiatric counseling too! This must be frustrating for you. I couldn't put up with people like this. Poor Doris, now in an unfamiliar environment.

The depths of some people's greed never ceases to amaze me. That they could have done this to her is just sad. Imagine working all your life and raising a kid or more only to have them take all that you have and all that yu are from you. I hope she gets placed somewhere nice.
